Final Blog: Post-program Reflection
By now, you’ve been home about as long as we were on the program. The fall semester is in full swing; you’re back with your family and friends and in your home space.
Reflect on ways the program has left its mark on you and your life:
▪Are there any sights, smells, activities, feelings, etc., that remind you of Germany/Europe?
▪What aspects of your “native” culture/life feel different to you since returning? Do you react differently to anything than you did before your experience?
▪Have you noticed any changes in yourself – your actions around your home and school, interactions with people, reactions to people or even news, new behaviors, etc.?
▪Consider a meaningful conversation or other interaction you had with someone from Germany/Europe. What did you learn from it about their culture or worldview?
▪What did you learn about yourself and/or your values while living in another culture?
▪What surprised you most about culture there? Why?
▪How has your understanding of the world and your place in the global community changed as a result of your experience abroad?
How has your experience abroad changed your perception of your own identity – who you are and what you are capable of, for example?
▪In what ways has this experience challenged your assumptions or beliefs?
▪And stuff, i.e., any other ways the experience in Germany/Europe has affected you that you want to explore and share.
(You do not need to respond to all of these questions/prompts. They are intended to spark thoughts in you and foster reflection. Do that in a way that is meaningful for you and comfortable to share!)
