Howdy!
I can't believe it has already been two months since we have been back! The fall semester is flying by. Going into this study abroad, I knew it would change me in various ways, but I had no idea just how much.
I am reminded of my time in Germany by the most random little things. The other day, I was at a restaurant with my family, and the menu had a schnitzel on it and I started telling my family about the schnitzel I had in Germany. Or even the train that comes down Wellborn Road, which always reminds me of the RB26 I had to take in Bonn.
One of the biggest things I have noticed since being back is how much more confident I am in myself and my abilities. I find asking random people questions about directions or experiences is not as daunting of a task as I previously thought. I think this boldness came from being in Germany where I had no choice but to ask strangers for directions or help. This skill is definitely something I use in my everyday life and will continue to use.
One of my favorite things about traveling to Germany was getting to see all the similarities and differences of their everyday lives compared to ours. One major difference I have noticed since being back is the amount of time outside we spend compared to them. For the most part, during the Texas heat waves, people tend to stay inside because it is much cooler and more comfortable. In Germany, we spent more consistent time outside because walking was how we commuted to places.
Overall, I am happy to be home and have appreciated the new outlooks Germany has provided for me. This trip is something I will never forget, and I will carry the things I have learned for the rest of my life.
Thanks & Gig'em,
Rebekah Bledsoe
Howdy Rebekah, I too have grown to be confident in my abilites and what we had accomplished. It is so great that you tested your limits and learned useful tools that you can carry with you for the rest of your life!
ReplyDeleteHi Rebekah!
ReplyDeleteI can’t believe it’s already been two months either, it really flew by. I love how those little everyday things, like schnitzel on a menu or a passing train, can instantly bring you back. It’s awesome that your confidence has grown so much from the experience, and I totally agree about spending more time outside there it became such a natural part of daily life. I’m glad Germany had such a lasting impact on you!
